The Sue Barron Jazz Quartet
The Sue Barron Jazz Quartet/band have been performing in and around Manchester, Cheshire and the North West of England for several years, for weddings, functions and also in restaurants and bars. Sue Barron is a singer who can entertain you with accompaniment ranging from piano through to a six piece band depending on:
• your needs • your budget • your venue We provide professional musicians who can perform to suit the mood of your function - whether it be background / dinner jazz and ballads, more up-beat swings, or a combination of both. It’s “jazz standards” and swing, a little blues and a little Latin/bossanova. Think of Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Norah Jones - these are some of the artists whose material we play, popular jazz that will be familiar to you and your guests. We also have a repertoire of original material that can be added to our playlist if you so desire. |

Here is a sample list of songs that we can perform for you. In addition, we can try to accommodate any special requests you may have for your day.
If they are not already included on our playlist, all we ask is that you give us ample notice so that we can learn them for you. In addition, Sue can add some of her own original material to your playlist if desired, taken from her debut album Soon or her latest single, You'll Never Know. *Note: Titles marked by an asterisk are featured on Sue's mp3 player. Frequently Asked Questions
Can you play outdoors?
Yes, as long as there is a safe and adequate power supply and ample protection from the elements in the event of rain (particularly with the reputation of the British ‘summer’!). Do you perform at any function? Yes - weddings, birthdays, christenings, etc. - it really doesn’t matter. We are also available for restaurant work. Do you provide your own PA? Yes we do. Can you and the band dress to fit our occasion? Yes. The band’s usual code of dress is smart casual which is how we will appear unless asked otherwise. If your function is formal then we can dress to suit, for example in dinner jackets or tuxedos, no problem. How much will it cost? There is no set price because there are so many variables to consider - the size of band, the number and length of spots, travelling distance and the size of your budget- so we tailor a package to suit you and work out a price based on that. But you can always be assured that we will always give great value. |

The Things People Say
18/1/2010 Hi Sue and Boys, Many thanks for sat, you were amazing so good we were so happy with how it all went. Thank you all so much. Ruth and Dane 11.1.2010 HI Sue, Sorry for the very late mail, but I went to India the morning after the ball and am just getting back on top of things after the holiday period. I just realised I hadn't thanked you and your band for the excellent entertainment on the night of the 27th Nov - it was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all. Once again, many thanks, Amol (North West Orthopaedic Trainees Association) 7th September 2009 Julie and I booked Sue and the band for our wedding and we really appreciated their professionalism and energy performing. The music really set the scene to a wonderful day and we would recommend them anytime to perform at any major event. Thanks for being part of the best day of our lives!!!! xxxx :-) Keith and Julie Dyer Date added: 22/05/2009 Client/visitor name: James Hodgkinson Comments: On the day Sue Barron's arrival, set up and start time were all on time – very efficient and professional. The band dressed as we had asked, played the songs we had requested, were flexible polite and pleasant. All present felt the band played well, playing quiet sensitive dinner jazz during our meal and more up-beat music for dancing. They responded to requests and paused when asked to for wedding speeches etc. If anything, they exceeded our expectations. On the night, the band themselves were quick to set up, well presented, and flexible. They were unobtrusive when they needed to be, being quiet during speeches and our bridal waltz, and kicked off with gusto once more after that. Sue Barron has gathered around her excellent and sensitive musicians who could quietly accompany a diner or have a room dancing. More than highly recommended. 16th February 2009 Dear Sue, I write on behalf of the Romily, Marple & District Lions club to thank you for supporting our jazz night. I received lots of excellent feedback for yourself and the band on Friday. The audience enjoyed the night and listened very attentively and appreciated the brilliant musicianship. Thanks again - can we do it again next year? Phil Daniels President Romily, Marple & District Lions Club. With best wishes, Judith Rastall 15 Nov 2007 18:31 Hi Sue & the Band. Great night at Rivendell and clients most happy as ever. Keep it going cos they dont get better than you. Alan LnB Entertainments xxxxx 12th February 2007 Dear Sue, I write on behalf of the Romily, Marple and District Lions club to thank you for supporting our jazz night by singing and by organising fantastic support from your family and friends. All in all we will have made over £650 which is a great success for us. All this money goes into our charity account and we use it for the numerous requests for help that we receive. This includes Stockport Social Services who contact us about needy families - we recently helped a needy child with Christmas presents and have paid for all his school trips for this year. We also support international campaigns such as Water Aid and Sight First but, in the main, prefer to help local good causes. If it's Ok with you and the band we would like to make the JAZZ NIGHT an annual event and I'll give you a call soon to discuss this. Thanks again - hope to see you all again soon. Phil Daniels Treasurer Romily, Marple and District Lions Club 7th December 2005 “Hi Sue, I wanted to say a big thank you to you and your band for an excellent night on 26th November. I’m sure you did more than your quota of sessions! Everyone had a great time, and many said how much they enjoyed the band. Thanks again, and please give my regards to your lovely boys! Jude” 7th December 2004 “Dear Sue, Thank you for a fantastic performance last Friday. We could not have asked for better. A lot of people praised me for my choice of band. All praise must go to you and the band. Many thanks. Paul Allerton 9th January 2004 “Hi Sue & the guys, To say a really big thank you for doing our wedding on 7th December. You were all great, just what we wanted, and thanks for doing the special songs, etc. for us, it all worked out great. Also, thank you for the wedding card, it was really sweet of you. Thanks again. Love, Ann and Darryl Berman” 10th November 2003 “Dear Sue, Thank you so much for the music you provided so well on Saturday night. Margaret and Roger, as well as our guests, really appreciated your singing and the playing of the band. A special thank you from Roger for "Petit Fleur" and "Sweet Lorraine", as well as "Fever" and "Summertime", some of his favourite pieces. He particularly appreciated the band playing "Petit Fleur" as they had apparently never heard it before I asked you if they could play it! This must be yet another piece to add to your extensive repertoire. You mentioned in your original letter that you would do your utmost to accommodate any particular requests, and you certainly kept your promise. Thank you once again for helping to make the 60th birthday party a success. Yours sincerely. Jane Drinkwater” 2nd October 2003 “Dear Sue, A quick note from Mike and myself to say a big thank you for making such wonderful music for our wedding dinner on Sept 6th at The Woodheys. Everybody appreciated your jazz quartet and, of course, Mike and I were delighted! Many thanks again, and with best wishes for the future. Stephanie” |

Lyrics As well as being an accomplished vocalist, Sue is also a talented lyricist as her debut album “SOON” demonstrates. She captures a sensual view of love and life in her lyrics in a way few writers can and presents them beautifully through soft ballads and foot-tapping up-tempo numbers in music ably penned by writer and performer Alan Large. Here are the lyrics to the four tracks taken from the album which feature on Sue's mp3 player: ------------------------------------
Soon
Soon, you will be my love
Soon, it can’t come quick enough Ooooh, I need you baby Ooooh, I love you so much. Oh, I can’t help this feeling Oh no, it just won’t go away Even though… I’ve tried and tried and tried, But this love I just can’t hide. Soon, we will fly away Soon, to a bright new day Yes, we’ll be so happy Hey, what do you say? You – you light my life You – make the sunshine shine Make my defences weak inside And you – you make me feel That everything is real Or is this just me wishing that… You Make Me Go (Oooh)
I love the way you walk
I love the way you talk I love your smiley eyes I love your I… Love the way you laugh I love the way you have Of making me feel so ooooh You, make me go ooh I, want you so oooh And I know That you you feel the same way too This electricity Between you and me Has started a fire Of smouldering desire. I love your intellect I love when you protect… Me in your arms I… Love the way you dare Me to lay my soul out bare Naked truth between us is there Chorus One-Way Highway
There was something about you
The second I saw you Moment of madness And then I let you go I felt it so strongly Rightly or wrongly You felt if too And then you went away One-way highway There’s no turning back I’ve gotta find you It’s a single track One-way highway The sky is bright and blue My heart is flying Straight to you We’ve gotta be strong now To say how it is now Feelings like this They just won’t go away You know we’re connected My heart’s unprotected I’ve gotta show you What you mean to me One-way highway Driving through the night It’s in the stars That I’ll hold you tight One-way highway My heart is pounding so fast Gotta find you And love you at last. You know we’re connected My hearts unprotected I’ve gotta show you What you mean to me Chorus Real Dream
Sunny Friday afternoon
I sit in a café And wait for you Steamy coffee Dust floats like stars Later I’m gonna hit the bars Oooh oooh oooh Oooh oooh oooh oooh Oh Dream a life oh Make good times Yes Dream a life Aah, aah, aah, aah........Real dream Dream of places far away May go there But not today See a picture on the wall Some sultry place Oh how it calls Oooh oooh oooh Oooh oooh oooh oooh Chorus Dreamt a river, was so blue I was so happy I was with you One of these days I’ll get it right My destiny’s Within my sight Ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh Chorus |
