The Sue Barron Jazz Quartet/band have been performing in and around Manchester, Cheshire and the North West of England for several years, for weddings, functions and also in restaurants and bars. Sue Barron is a singer who can entertain you with accompaniment ranging from piano through to a six piece band depending on:

• your needs
• your budget
• your venue

We provide professional musicians who can perform to suit the mood of your function - whether it be background / dinner jazz and ballads, more up-beat swings, or a combination of both.

It’s “jazz standards” and swing, a little blues and a little Latin/bossanova. Think of Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Norah Jones - these are some of the artists whose material we play, popular jazz that will be familiar to you and your guests.

We also have a repertoire of original material that can be added to our playlist if you so desire.

Sue is a jazz singer who has sung in several genres including an acappella show chorus with whom she performed at the Georgia Bowl in Atlanta in 1999. Other venues include – Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Plaza Theatre Stockport, Royal Northern College of Music Manchester and Tameside Theatre, Ashton-under-Lyne. She also made appearances singing with a vocal quintet at local events and theatres.

Sue has also done some recording work in the jazz/dance genre and in 2002 she set up SBQ (the Sue Barron Jazz Quartet). The band has been performing regularly ever since in hotels, clubs, restaurants, bars and for many private functions, mainly in the Manchester and Cheshire area, although the band has gigged several times at distinguished London venues. The quartet appeared on the jazz stage of the North Manchester Arts Festival in 2003 and has also enjoyed radio airplay of music and an interview on BBC GMR (Greater Manchester Radio).

Recently Sue collaborated as a lyricist with keyboard player and composer Alan Large to create her debut album ‘Soon’ - a collection of 10 original songs. The material was subsequently performed live by SBQ on the CD launch night at the Cinnamon Club in Bowden, Cheshire, one of the north west’s top jazz venues. The Sue Barron Jazz quartet/band have been performing in and around Manchester, Cheshire and the North West of England for several years. The Band consists of Andrezej Baranek on piano, Phil Bennet on drums, and Nick Blacka on double bass. In addition we can call on the lovely mellow tone of saxophonist Helen Pillinger a fabulous addition to the line up if the client wishes. All are excellent professional musicians.

Can you play outdoors?
Yes, as long as there is a safe and adequate power supply and ample protection from the elements in the event of rain (particularly with the reputation of the British ‘summer’!).

Do you perform at any function?
Yes - weddings, birthdays, christenings, etc. - it really doesn’t matter. We are also available for restaurant work.

Do you provide your own PA?
Yes we do.

Can you and the band dress to fit our occasion?
Yes. The band’s usual code of dress is smart casual which is how we will appear unless asked otherwise. If your function is formal then we can dress to suit, for example in dinner jackets or tuxedos, no problem.

How much will it cost?
There is no set price because there are so many variables to consider - the size of band, the number and length of spots, travelling distance and the size of your budget- so we tailor a package to suit you and work out a price based on that. But you can always be assured that we will always give great value.

Comments: On the day Sue Barron's arrival, set up and start time were all on time – very efficient and professional.

The band dressed as we had asked, played the songs we had requested, were flexible polite and pleasant. All present felt the band played well, playing quiet sensitive dinner jazz during our meal and more up-beat music for dancing. They responded to requests and paused when asked to for wedding speeches etc. If anything, they exceeded our expectations.

On the night, the band themselves were quick to set up, well presented, and flexible. They were unobtrusive when they needed to be, being quiet during speeches and our bridal waltz, and kicked off with gusto once more after that. Sue Barron has gathered around her excellent and sensitive musicians who could quietly accompany a diner or have a room dancing.

More than highly recommended.

Dear Sue,

I write on behalf of the Romily, Marple and District Lions club to thank you for supporting our jazz night by singing and by organising fantastic support from your family and friends.
All in all we will have made over £650 which is a great success for us. All this money goes into our charity account and we use it for the numerous requests for help that we receive. This includes Stockport Social Services who contact us about needy families - we recently helped a needy child with Christmas presents and have paid for all his school trips for this year. We also support international campaigns such as Water Aid and Sight First but, in the main, prefer to help local good causes.
If it's Ok with you and the band we would like to make the JAZZ NIGHT an annual event and I'll give you a call soon to discuss this.
